Portraiture

Portraits are an artist’s impression of the person they are painting … They’re far more than just an image or a photograph. A good portrait radiates the life-aura of the subject.

The genre seemed doomed when I was a younger artist.  But it has steadily returned to even greater acclaim and popularity.

Recently I painted a mural that contained forty-nine portraits… Well, that was good practice!

Then another five portraits for an upcoming exhibition … and I suddenly realised that I had been hooked all over again!

I am thriving on the challenge of capturing that essence and that magic that combine to make each new subject speak from the canvas.
